The Friends of Fannie Stebbins and the Allen Bird Club are teaming up for a day of birding, learning, and welcoming community!

Join us at the West Road parking lot—the one at the far end of Birnie Road—for all events.

7:30 a.m. — Bird walk with Allen Bird Club President Vince Yurkunas

1:00 p.m. — Information sharing and meeting some of the refuge’s fans and neighbors

2:00 p.m. — Birds of Prey with Tom Ricardi. Meet some of Tom’s ambassador birds, and possibly witness a rehabbed bird release.

Immediately after — An easy trail walk will be offered for anyone who would like to join.

Woodcocks are easiest to find at dusk in the springtime, when the male performs a marvelous display flight, or 'sky dance.' Wearing boots is recommended, as the fields are often muddy.  Also, bring a flashlight to see your walking path clearly. Meet at the parking lot on West Road in Longmeadow at 6:45 p.m.

Granby Land Trust's premier birding site, offering many spring migrants and nesting species, including Virginia Rail. An out-and-back walk (2.5 miles), level and easy except for one brief, moderate incline (200 yards). Meet at 7:30 a.m. in the preserve parking lot, 253 Loomis St, North Granby, CT. The lot is located 1/4 mile south of the Southwick/Granby town line.

Meet at the Station Road parking lot of the Norwottuck Rail Trail off South East St. in South Amherst at 6:00 p.m.  

The park is located at 400 Western Ave. Use the entrance for the tennis courts and recreation field. Follow the park road as it bends to the left and meet at the entrance sign to the Frank Stanley Beveridge Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary at 7:30 a.m.  Mild incline involved.

Enter by the main entrance on 100 Pine St. and drive 1/2 mile into the park to the pavilion and parking area. 7:30 a.m.

Meet on Colemore St. opposite the North St. entrance at 7:30 a.m. Moderate incline involved.

An easy 2-3 mile walk on flat terrain.  Bring footwear appropriate for wet trails.  Be prepared for ticks and mosquitoes.   Meet on Tilley St. (unsigned, except for a NO EXIT sign), off West St. in Ludlow, near Ludlow/Granby line at 7:30 a.m.  Parking is on either side of Tilley St. before the yellow gate.

Bird an assigned area in central Hampden County from 6:00 p.m. Friday to 6:00 p.m. Saturday.  Potluck supper for participants at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.  

Because parking at the trail is extremely limited, we will meet at 5:30 a.m. on Old Mountain Road near the gate to Skinner State Park, carpool to Mitch's Way and return in time to do the Mt. Holyoke field trip (see below).

Help monitor the breeding birds in the Little River IBA (Important Bird Area) in parts of Granville, Blandford, Russell, and Southwick.  6:00 p.m. Friday to 6:00 p.m. Saturday.  Compilation and pizza at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.  

Moderate hiking involved. Make reservations at Sandy Point Motel (518-624-3871) in Long Lake as early as possible. Call leader at least 10 days in advance for details.
