Wetland and grassland species.   An easy 2-3 mile walk on flat terrain.  Bring footwear appropriate for wet trails.  Be prepared for ticks and mosquitoes.   Meet on Tilley St. (unsigned, except for a NO EXIT sign), off West St. in Ludlow, near Ludlow/Granby line at 7:30 a.m.  Parking is on either side of Tilley St. before the yellow gate.

1st - 10th     Breeding Bird Survey at Stebbins Refuge
Calling all interested birders to record birds found in the Stebbins Refuge.  Select any early morning in the first 10 days of June to do your survey, alone or as part of a team.  It is helpful to know bird calls, but not required.  To participate, email or call the coordinator.

3  Sat.     Westover Grasslands, Chicopee - Half Day
Upland Sandpiper, Kestrel, Grasshopper Sparrow, Bobolink and Meadowlark.  Registration is required.  Leader will need the following information from each participant two weeks in advance:  Name, Address, Phone Number, Date of Birth, and Driver's License Number.  Limited to 20 people - your spot must be reserved by May 20th to meet requirements set out by WAFB.  Meet in the parking lot of 99 Restaurant on Memorial Drive across from Mass. Turnpike Exit #5 in Chicopee at 7:00 a.m.  Bring water and snack.

2-4  Fri.-Sat. or Sat.-Sun.     Little River Breeding Bird Count
Help monitor the breeding birds in the Little River IBA (Important Bird Area) in parts of Granville, Blandford, Russell, and Southwick.  6:00 p.m. first day to 6:00 p.m. next day.  Compilation and pizza for participants at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.  Call coordinator Seth Kellogg at 569-3335 for details and territory assignments.

10  Sat.     Tyringham, Stockbridge & Lenox  - 3/4 Day
Wetland and grassland species.  Some easy hiking.  Meet at McDonald's in Lee just north of Turnpike Exit 2 at 6:30 a.m.  Seth Kellogg 569-3335

11  Sun.     Chester - 3/4 Day
Visit varied habitats for nesting species.  Short walks and roadside birding.  Meet at Westfield City Hall, 59 Court St. at 6:00 a.m.  Tom Swochak 485-8378

Nesting species.  Meet in the parking lot at Graves Farm Wildlife Sanctuary on Adams Road in Williamsburg at 7:30 a.m.  Carol Gabranski 374-2989

Nesting boreal species.  Moderate hiking involved.  Make reservations at Sandy Point Motel (518-624-3871) in Long Lake as early as possible.  Call leader at least 10 days in advance for details.
